IMAGE WALL PROJECTION

From Genga 25,000 BC.

This extraordinary calcite statuette, made from a local stalactite, was recently found by chance in the cave of the Blessed Virgin of Frasassi.

The figure, monumental despite its very small dimensions (8.7 cm in height and 66.5 g in weight), has generous shapes, and is represented in the unusual attitude of bending the forearms forward with joined hands.

A few schematic masses summarize the parts of the body with absolute effectiveness: on the ovoid, barely sketched face, the features are barely recognisable, and the back of the head is separated by a furrow, perhaps to indicate the hair.

The large circular breasts protrude between the arms placed close to the torso and the prominent pregnant belly is highlighted even more by a deep incision, which separates the pelvic triangle and the vulva.
